The axe has fallen in New York, but failed to clip either Joe Torre or Brian Cashman.

Peter Abraham of the Journal News is reporting this afternoon that the Yankees have fired Marty Miller, their director of performance enhancement after just a few months on the job.

“A series of injuries, the latest coming last night when Phil Hughes tore his left hamstring, led to the ouster of Miller, who joined the team this season,” Abraham writes. “Several players had questioned Miller’s methods and his lack of experience in professional baseball.”

Miller had come straight to the team from a position as director of fitness at the Ballen Isles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., which only makes a professional sports franchise the logical next step.
