Red flag
We have Gary Thorne’s Deep Throat.
Former Sox lefty Alan Embree, now with the Oakland A’s, who arrive at Fenway Park for a two-game set starting this evening, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was the one who painted Curt Schilling’s sock.
“I did it. He didn’t even know I did it. Curt thought it was blood. It was that red stuff you buy for Halloween. I told Doug Mirabelli. That’s how it all got out. Curt believed it was blood, and it gave him the strength from within to rise above and take the challenge.”
He was joking, Gary.
Schilling pitches tonight for the first time since his sock integrity came into question. As for Thorne, his weekly column in the Bangor Daily News ran on Saturday – a day later than usual – and not surprisingly, failed to address the furor he cause on the air last week.
Instead, Thorne takes the stand that Marvin Miller should be inducted into the Hall of Fame. In the comments section that follows, Paul of Brewer, Maine writes, “After last week, I can not beleive (sic) anything that Gary Thorne states or writes.”
