Hearing aid
Today’s hearing of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee over Major League Baseball’s controversial deal with DirecTV isn’t expected to solve the situation, but according to Sen. John Kerry, will at least force the MLB powers that be to answer questions as to why this is a proper avenue for the league.
“That’s the purpose of the hearing,” Kerry said yesterday. “Fans are pretty discerning. I think they’ll have a terrific ability to say, `Well, that’s a crock or this isn’t,’ and kind of get a read on it.”
The Chicago Tribune’s Phil Rogers has more on the TV deal and Major League Baseball’s overwhelming recent success.
“The good news for baseball is that so many people still care so much about its product,” he writes. “It’s up to Selig to make sure that MLB doesn’t alienate its most passionate fans.”
And therein is just what Selig and friends just don’t get.
