Derek Jeter was one of Tuesday’s guests on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and he came bearing a few messages for Red Sox fans.
Seth Meyers, who is an undying Sox fan and faux-Bostonian himself, told Jeter that his newborn son will be raised to praise the Sox.
To that, Jeter responded: “The Boston fans — you know what? You always meet people time [to] time, and they say, ‘I’m sorry, I’m a Boston fan.’ Really, I don’t care if you’re a Boston fan. That’s fine. We’re not at the stadium. Just don’t yell at me at restaurants.”
Ha ha, Jeter. But then he continued: “I can say this now because I’m retired, but the Boston fans have softened up since you guys have won. It pains me to say it, but I’m almost — I won’t say it. I’m not happy you won. But you treat me a lot better.”
There you have it: Bostonians have made it to Derek Jeter’s good side.
