Tony Romo: If Tom Brady wins Super Bowl, ‘I don’t know how anyone can top him’ in all-time conversation
Romo will call Super Bowl LV alongside Jim Nantz on CBS.
CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo sure seems excited to announce Super Bowl LV.
In speaking with reporters about the upcoming matchup between the Chiefs and Buccaneers, Romo hyped up the battle between the two quarterbacks, calling it a “legacy game” for Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.
Romo believes that Mahomes, who is just in his fourth year in the league, has the potential to be the best quarterback ever.
“This is the only kid that is going to be in the discussion,” Romo said of Mahomes’ chances of becoming the best to ever play the game. “This is the matchup people will be talking about 25 to 50 years from now. As a football fan, this is as good as it gets. This one is really special.”
While Romo raved about Mahomes’ chances to be an all-time great, he still thinks that Super Bowl LV is a must-win if he ever hopes to be the best quarterback of all-time.
“The fact that Patrick Mahomes is somehow in this discussion shows you how amazing this guy is,” Romo said. “There’s a chance for Patrick Mahomes playing this game, to climb the ladder. If Mahomes wins, he keeps that door open. If Brady wins, I don’t know how anyone can top him.
“This is the biggest game Patrick Mahomes will ever play in for the rest of his career,” Romo later added.” It’s the only way to catch Tom Brady. If he loses this game, he cannot catch Tom Brady, in my opinion.”
A win would give Mahomes his second Super Bowl victory and would give the 25-year-old plenty of time to match the six Super Bowls Brady has won. However, a Brady win would certainly make it tough to catch up as Brady would hold seven Super Bowl titles to Mahomes’ one. In addition to that, Brady would also break the 2-2 record he has in his career against Mahomes, winning both playoff matchups between the two.

No matter who wins, Romo believes that football fans are in for a Super Bowl for the ages.
“This is going to be one of the great matchups in sports history,” Romo said. “This is what you talk about with your friends. Could you imagine if Michael Jordan got his team to the Finals against LeBron – who is becoming the face of the league? We’re getting that in this Super Bowl. It’s like Jack Nicklaus against Tiger Woods.”
