Patriots superfan Mark Wahlberg remains a little sensitive about his favorite team’s two Super Bowl losses to the New York Giants.
But that didn’t stop his pre-game interview with Cooper Manning — the oldest of the three Manning brothers, who is employed by Fox Sports — from going there.
“Mark, the Falcons going to do it today?” he asked to open the conversation.
Wahlberg responded with a blank stare.
“We’re off to a good start here,” said Manning, who then suggested 5-foot-8 Dorchester native could fill in as a Patriots slot receiver in Sunday’s game.
“Put me in the slot baby and throw me the ball,” Wahlberg said. “I’m just glad your little brother’s not here, so we’re in good shape.”
As the conversation then touched on the classic Patriots-Giants showdowns, it became clear Wahlberg was talking about Eli and not Peyton.
“I have a major problem with those two fluke plays and ruining our perfect season, but we’re here and I do have the utmost respect for him,” Wahlberg said, apparently referring to Eli’s two infamous passes to David Tyree and Mario Manningham in Super Bowl XLII and XLVI, respectively. “He’s an amazing talent.”
Manning responded that his major problem was that the Gronkowski brothers had taken over as the most popular brothers in Boston.
“Let them have it,” Wahlberg said. “They’ve wreaked havoc in the city.”
