Boston Legacy FC on Tuesday announced the acquisition of Olympic gold medalist Nichelle Prince in a trade with the Kansas City Current.

The Legacy will receive Prince and a 2026 international roster spot, and the Current will receive $125,000 in allocation funds and $50,000 in intraleague transfer funds in the deal.

Prince, 30, joins the Legacy after winning the 2025 NWSL Shield in Kansas City, where she scored three goals in 34 appearances across two seasons. Prior to her time in Kansas City, she scored 12 goals in 88 appearances with the Houston Dash.

The Dash selected Prince, a forward, in the 2018 NWSL Draft after she spent four years at Ohio State, where she scored 27 goals with 27 assists in 72 appearances.

“She adds pace, intelligence, and versatility, and we believe her profile fits exactly what we want to build in Boston,” Legacy general manager Domè Guasch said in a release. “Just as important, Nichelle is a strong presence off the field, someone who will raise standards and help drive our culture from Day One and into the future.”

Prince, who hails from Ontario, has represented Canada on the senior level since she was 17. In her 13 years with the senior national team, she has scored 17 goals and made 14 assists in 113 appearances.

She played for Team Canada at the Women’s World Cup in 2019 and 2023, and at the Summer Olympics in 2016, 2020, and 2024. She won an Olympic bronze medal in 2016, and a gold medal in 2020.

“Nichelle is a proven NWSL player who brings real quality and experience to our group,” Guasch said. “She’s competed at the highest level and knows what it takes to win, both in this league and internationally with Canada.”

The Legacy now have 23 players under contract after surpassing the league minimum of 22 with the signing of Ugandan striker Fauzia Najjemba on Thursday.

The club will begin its first training camp in January, with the inaugural-season home opener set for March 14 at Gillette Stadium.
