The Boston Legacy Football Club officially knows the date of its National Women’s Soccer League regular season debut.
The expansion team will take the field at Gillette Stadium for the first time in a league game on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. According to a club announcement, the game “will be broadcast nationally.”
Given that the 2025 NWSL season is ongoing, the exact details of the 2026 schedule have not yet been revealed (including who the opponent will be for the opener).
The game will be played at Gillette Stadium, as Legacy FC is set to play its inaugural season in Foxborough while the renovations continue at White Stadium in Boston (the proposed long-term home venue for the club).
An NWSL team was first granted to Boston in 2023, when Boston Unity Soccer Partners (BUSC) was awarded one of the league’s expansion franchises. The target date for the league debut of both Boston and Denver Summit FC was set for 2026.
Prior to playing its first game, Boston will need to continue constructing a roster. Without a traditional expansion draft (per the league’s most recent collective bargaining agreement), the Legacy FC front office must sign a full squad on its own. The league has allowed for an additional $1,065,000 in allocation money to be used by both expansion teams to help with initial roster building.
So far, Legacy FC has signed nine players. The club will need to double that to reach the NWSL minimum squad size for a game (18), though both Boston and Denver do not have to meet the league’s minimum roster size in 2025 (per a league announcement).
