The Braintree American baseball team’s storybook run in the Little League World Series came to an end Sunday morning with a 3-2 loss to the Northwest representative from Bonney Lake, Washington.

Braintree’s Henry Kuka allowed six hits and three earned runs while striking out six in a complete-game performance. The pitcher was also responsible for one of his team’s two runs.

Washington scored in the bottom of the first inning when a single by Colton Audette drove in Mason Woods from second, and Braintree answered by plating two to make it 2-1 in the top of the second.

Kuka struck out two to open the bottom of the inning before losing control of the frame. He hit the next batter, then Washington’s Cole Sehlin hit a single to bring in the tying run.

Washington then plated the go-ahead run on a wild pitch before second baseman Ryan Needle caught a fly ball to end the inning and leave two runners stranded.

Washington starting pitcher Sawyer Breed struck out seven in five innings before Andrew Madsen entered the game to strike out one in relief.

After a 13-0 loss in the opener in historic Williamsport, Pa., the New England regional champion bounced back with a commanding 7-3 victory over the Southwest regional squad from Richmond, Texas to keep their season alive.
