After he went viral for his calm and cool composure prior to his 2024 Paris Olympics pommel horse routine, fans drew comparisons between Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik and Superman. The bespectacled athlete helped the U.S. men’s gymnastics team earn their first medal in 16 years at the Paris Games last week. From Worcester, the gymnast won another bronze at the event’s individual final with a score of 15.300 this past Saturday.

Nedoroscik became an online sensation, shown wearing glasses and calmly resting before making history, like Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent come to life. And just like Kent, the Olympian has had a “Lois Lane” by his side for the last eight years. Her name: Tess McCracken.

The couple met the summer before their freshman years at Penn State University, where they both were on the gymnastics team. She stepped away from the sport in 2020, but traveled to Paris to support Nedoroscik as he competed.

They’ve embraced their newfound virality and are loving all the memes, with McCracken changing her account handle to @stephens_gf on X with the bio “Ms. Pommel Horse.”

“Blowing up on the internet has been such an unexpected side effect of this whole adventure,” McCracken told NBC.

With more than 1.5 million likes, this TikTok from @nbcolympics features clips of Nedoroscik and the song “You, Me and Steve” by Garfunkel and Oates.

Nedoroscik remains cool-headed in all aspects of life, not just when competing. “Neither one of us gets worked up,” McCracken told E! News. “We disagree, we go back and forth with our logic, we think about it. And that’s really great.”

From Texas, 26-year-old McCracken pursued a Master’s degree in biotechnology, also from Penn State. The couple now lives together in Sarasota, Florida.
