FIFA announced Sunday that seven 2026 World Cup games will be played at… “Boston Stadium.”
What’s that now?
Boston Stadium.
We may be more than two years away till the FIFA World Cup 26 ™, but it's time to mark your calendars. The beautiful game is coming to Boston Stadium for 7 matches, including a quarterfinal. #FIFAWorldCup pic.twitter.com/fT8hdHbKdk

Ah yes, as locals were quick to point out on X (aka Twitter) “Boston Stadium” (aka Gillette Stadium) is actually a 35-minute drive from the city in lovely Foxborough, Massachusetts.
“Boston Stadium isn’t a thing,” one X user succinctly put it.
Another surmised that international travelers may be confused upon landing at Logan Airport — or it actually may make more sense to fly into Warwick, Rhode Island, another pointed out.
What is the plan for communicating to people from other countries that the games aren’t anywhere close to Boston? Will transportation be available for those people?

They call it Boston Stadium but they’ll probably fly into Warwick https://t.co/nD2jAbZ6ki

To be fair, the overwhelming sentiment to the news was excitement, with local soccer (aka football) fans reveling in the number of games, including two knockout contests. Because whether you call it Boston (per FIFA rules), Gillette, or Foxboro stadium, the beautiful game’s biggest stars are coming to, let’s just say Massachusetts, in a mere two years.
