New Premier Lacrosse League to open at Gillette Stadium
The tour-based league's six teams will play in Foxborough on June 1 in its inaugural season.
Get ready for professional lacrosse at Gillette Stadium this spring.
Premier Lacrosse League co-founder Paul Rabil announced Friday that the Foxborough venue will serve as the site for the opener of the league’s inaugural season June 1.
The PLL is a tour-based model featuring six teams that will play each other amid a festival setting in a different city every weekend, with a championship ultimately on the line.
Gillette Stadium has hosted five NCAA men’s lacrosse championships since 2008, and Rabil played in the first one with Johns Hopkins. He is a two-time World Championship gold medalist with Team USA and played 10 seasons in Major League Lacrosse, including seven with the Boston Cannons.
He launched the PLL in October with his brother, Mike.
Gillette Stadium holds the record for largest attendance at the NCAA men’s Division 1 lacrosse championship (48,970 in 2008), as well as the records for Divisions 2 and 3.
