Morning sports update: Dak Prescott cited Gisele Bundchen as a reason why he won’t take a contract like Tom Brady’s

The Bruins defeated the Avalanche 2-1 on Sunday, with Brad Marchand scoring the overtime winner. Boston plays next on Tuesday at home against the Blackhawks at 7 p.m.
The Celtics also play on Tuesday in Philadelphia against the 76ers at 8 p.m.
Dak Prescott isn’t taking a Tom Brady discount: Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been a salary cap friendly contract for the Cowboys since getting picked by Dallas in the fourth round of the 2016 draft.
But with his rookie contract expiring in 2020, the Cowboys are likely to begin negotiations over an extension. Prescott recently commented on what he’s looking for.
“I think the team knows how to pay what’s deserved,” he told USA Today.
One thing Prescott isn’t interested in doing is a Tom Brady style deal. The Patriots’ quarterback has a history of team friendly deals.
Prescott cited Brady’s wife, Gisele Bundchen, as a difference.
“Nobody’s wife makes as much money as his wife does either,” said Prescott. “When Tom Brady isn’t the breadwinner in the home, then that’s a great problem to have. So in that case, he can do that. He can do his contract however you want to do it.”
Bundchen earned $10 million in a one-year span from 2017 through 2018.

Doc Rivers weighed in on the Celtics’ current dilemma
: If there’s one coach who knows what it was like to get a Celtics team to overcome individual ambition in exchange for a greater team goal, it’s Doc Rivers.
“It’s the expectation,” Rivers said. “Listen, we had some veterans, too. Kevin and Paul and Ray were ready, you know. You have Gordon and Horford and Kyrie, and then you have to get the young guys. It’s hard, though. It really is.” [The Boston Globe]

On this day: In 1997, the Jets concluded the hiring of Bill Parcells to be the team’s new head coach. It ended an acrimonious divorce of Parcells and the Patriots, who he’d coached in Super Bowl XXXI barely two weeks before. Parcells’s contract with the Patriots stated that he couldn’t simply leave for another team, so the Jets initially hired him merely as a consultant. Bill Belichick was hired to be the team’s coach until Parcells could take over.
Eventually, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue stepped in to work out draft pick compensation for the Patriots, allowing Parcells to immediately coach the Jets.
Daily highlight: Brad Marchand once again delivered an overtime winner for the Bruins.
