Morning sports update: Bill Belichick joked about Tom Brady not reaching 1,000 rushing yards

The Patriots defeated the Packers on Sunday, 31-17. Tied in the fourth quarter, New England found a way to pull away and move to 7-2 on the season.

The Celtics face the Nuggets in Denver tonight, while the Bruins host the Stars at TD Garden.

Bill Belichick joked about Tom Brady not reaching 1,000 career rushing yards: In the middle of a postgame soundbite in which Bill Belichick praised Tom Brady for career his accomplishments, the coach made light of a simmering statistical chase.

Brady, who entered the game at 997 career rushing yards, failed to cross the threshold in Sunday night’s win over the Packers.

“Did he pass the rushing record this week?” Belichick asked. With a wry smile, he lamented one of Brady’s few failures that night.

“No, didn’t get that? OK, but yeah, that’s alright. That’s not that important of a record. We could’ve used the yards,” Belichick joked. “We could’ve used the extra yards tonight. But yeah, that’s a great achievement for him.”
