Here are a few of the stories from around the Boston sports world to start your Monday:
Former Red Sox reliever Mike Timlin was at Las Vegas concert, tweets he is okay: Mike Timlin, who won two World Series with the Red Sox as a relief pitcher in 2004 and 2007, was present at the Las Vegas concert where at least 50 people were killed by a shooter on Sunday night. Timlin, who originally tweeted out a picture at the concert, followed up to say that he and his group are all okay:

Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving given first TD Garden introduction as Celtics: At an open practice for season ticket holders, the Celtics saw two of the team’s newest stars given their first introductions as members of the team.
Both Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving received a warm reception from fans:
Patriots’ defensive communication remains team’s weakness: The Patriots lost at home for the second time in 2017, falling to the Panthers in a last-second 33-30 defeat. While Tom Brady directed yet another Patriots comeback in the fourth quarter, the defense was unable to stop Cam Newton and the Carolina offense.
The issue on defense appears to be communication. And according to Comcast SportsNet’s Tom Curran, highly priced free agent signing Stephon Gilmore has been a “prime suspect” in some of the breakdowns. (CSNNE)
Red Sox have some thinking to do before announcing postseason roster: The Red Sox begin the playoffs on Thursday, but have a few roster decisions to make before then. The status of both Dustin Pedroia and Eduardo Nunez are up in the air.
“We’ve got a number of discussions to take place,” said Red Sox manager John Farrell. (Boston Globe)
