Nate Silver apologizes for meme involving member of Richard family

In trying to make a joke about the Red Sox sign-stealing scandal, FiveThirtyEight editor-in-chief Nate Silver ended up involving a family member of Boston Marathon bombing victim Martin Richard in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Hours later, Silver apologized for the mistake. The original tweet was a meme, depicting Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Henry Richard at Fenway Park. It was intended as a joke regarding the Apple Watch-Red Sox scandal that broke on Tuesday evening. Silver apparently didn’t realize who Richard was. A myriad of responses on Twitter informed him.

Upon realizing what he had done, Silver deleted the tweet and followed up with an apology:
