Here’s how to watch all 4 games Saturday in Boston’s packed day of sports
It’s beginning to look a lot like spring outside, but New England sports fans could feasibly spend the entirety of Saturday afternoon watching one or two — or three — of their favorite teams playing at the same time.
As the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins bear down on the final games of their regular reason, the Boston Red Sox and New England Revolution are just getting their seasons started. All four play Saturday. And with the four games set to overlap, make sure to have the remote ready to make the best out of the eight-hour Boston sports marathon.
1:10 p.m.
The afternoon opens in Detroit, where the Red Sox are playing the second of their four-game series against the Tigers. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will make his 2017 debut, following the team’s first loss of the season Friday at Comerica Park.
Rodriguez will face off against Detroit’s Jordan Zimmerman.
The game is set to be televised on NESN, as well as MLB Network.
2 p.m.
An hour later, the Revolution kick things off at Gillette Stadium against the Houston Dynamo. Just four games into the season, the home team is eighth in the MLS’s Eastern Conference at 1-2-1. The Dynamo, on the other hand, are undefeated (3-0-1).
The game will be broadcast on CSNNE.
3 p.m.
The playoff-bound Bruins finish off their 2016-2017 regular season with a nationally televised game at the TD Garden against the league-leading Washington Capitals — who are also a potential (and perhaps the Bruins’ least desirable) first-round opponent.
The Bruins — who currently hold a two-point lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have two games remaining, for second in the Atlantic Division — would face the Ottawa Senators if the current playoff picture holds.
The game is on NBC.
6 p.m.
Circle back to CSNNE for the final game of the day, in which the Celtics visit the Charlotte Hornets.
Despite their recent two-game slide, Boston is still in contention for the one-seed in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Cleveland Cavaliers by a single game. The Celtics are most likely looking at a first-round matchup against the Chicago Bulls or Indiana Pacers.
The Celtics can do their best to climb back into the driver’s seat with Saturday’s game against the Hornets, who are all but eliminated from playoff contention, as well as their final two games against the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks. But the Cavs would have to drop at least two games for the Celtics to claim the top seed.
