Angry Chiefs fans mistook a Boston meteorologist for a football player on Twitter

After a holding penalty by Chiefs lineman Eric Fisher cost his team a vital two-point conversion and (ultimately) ended Kansas City’s season, disgruntled fans took to Twitter to criticize him. The only problem was that in numerous cases, fans had the wrong Eric Fisher.

The Twitter handle @ericfisher belongs to the chief meteorologist for Massachusetts’ CBS affiliate, WBZ-TV. And Fisher (the meteorologist) received a barrage of angry or simply erroneous tweets after the Chiefs 18-16 loss to the Steelers on Sunday night.

Some of the tweets became predictably vicious, even as Fisher tweeted prolifically about how he doesn’t actually play professional football:

Still, Fisher explained that some of the misplaced messages were hopeful.

“I got some bad tweets, but I got lot from Kansas City Chiefs fans that said don’t worry about it, you had a good season, happy you’re on the team, we’ll get through this, onto next year,” Fisher told CBS Boston. “So not all bad apples, there’s a lot of good people out there still.”

Although even in the case of positive messages, they remain inaccurate:

Meteorologists, it must be remembered,  don’t get an offseason.
