 escorted some precious cargo Tuesday.

Brian Dumoulin, a Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman and native of Biddeford, Maine, brought the Stanley Cup back to his hometown for the day. The trip was part of a more than 20-year-old tradition in which players from the season’s winning team get their own day with the cup.

The Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup finals in June.

After landing at the Portland Jetport Tuesday morning, police escorted the cup and Dumoulin back to the player’s alma mater, Biddeford High School. From there, the cup was paraded to the Biddeford Ice Arena, where Dumoulin got his start playing youth ice hockey.
