Phil Kessel describes what it’s like to win his first Stanley Cup
Three teams and 10 seasons later, Phil Kessel will have his name etched on Lord Stanley's Cup.
For much of his 10-year career, Phil Kessel has been a seemingly easy target. When Kessel returned to TD Garden in late October of 2010, Bruins fans chanted “Thank You Kessel!” following a Tyler Seguin score (Seguin was drafted with the first-round pick acquired in the Kessel trade).
When Phil Kessel left Toronto in the 2015 offseason, columnists were quick to run the former Maple Leafs leading scorer out of town, seemingly fabricating meat myths to point to lack of dedication and work ethic.
Call him what you may, but Kessel’s latest title of “Stanley Cup Champion,” can put the haters and detractors to rest, at least for the time being.
Following the Penguins’ 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks in Game 6 of the Finals, Kessel spoke to what it’s like to hoist the 124-year-old piece of hockey hardware.

Kessel led the Penguins in postseason scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists in 24 games (he was 4th out of all playoff scorers).
Finally a winner on hockey’s biggest stage, Kessel was probably feeling a bit like Steve Young last night.
