A Minuteman and a Terrier, tearing it up on hockey’s biggest stage.
The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks Wednesday night to take a 2-0 series lead in the Finals, and throughout the series, former Massachusetts college hockey players have been making waves. In fact, a former Mass. player has registered a point on over half of all goals scored so far (4 G, 1 A – 5 of 8 total).
Wednesday night, the overtime game-winner came off the stick of former UMass Amherst captain Connor Sheary (’14). The 3rd period goal to force overtime was potted by another former Minuteman captain, San Jose defenseman Justin Braun (’10). The primary assist on the first goal of the game came from former Boston University forward Nick Bonino of Pittsburgh. In Game 1 Bonino notched the 3rd period game winner, while Sheary notched one score in the 1st.
