Bill Simmons reveals the rejected names for his new website
Bill Simmons’ new website is named “The Ringer.’’ But that was far from the only name considered.
In his sports and culture site’s first newsletter sent on Monday, Simmons revealed some of the other options discussed — and rejected — before a final decision was reached.

In addition to explaining why he and his staff utlimately chose “The Ringer,’’ Simmons also offered commentary on the contenders in the newsletter:
“That’s what happens when you write a bunch of dumb names on a whiteboard and stare at them for hours on end,’’ Simmons said. ““The Intrepid’’? (Sounds like a boat.) “Rational Confidence’’? (Sounds like a failed college band.) “The Rafters’’? (Sounds like a sports bar.) “Upper Echelon’’? (Sounds like a hedge fund.) “Barnstorm’’? (Sounds like a horse that would be favored to win the Kentucky Derby.) “Side Two’’? (Too insider.) “Grantworld’’? (Too ludicrous.) “[Expletive] Off, ESPN’’? (Too easy.)’’
