Event organizer IndyCar Boston has invited reporters to an official Grand Prix of Boston announcement scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Mark Perrone, CEO of Grand Prix of Boston, and Ken Brissette, the city’s director of tourism, sports, and entertainment, will be present, and a proposed track design will be discussed, according to the invite.
Organizers said they expect more than 250,000 spectators and an annual economic impact of $75-80 million, the Herald reports.
Baltimore was the last East Coast city to host an IndyCar race, holding a Labor Day weekend street race for three years starting in 2011. The Baltimore Sun reported in 2013 that the race would be canceled through 2015 “and likely beyond’’ due to scheduling conflicts, and noted growing complaints from Baltimore residents about “the traffic disruptions and prison-like course barriers the event brings.’’
