California Chrome Takes the Preakness
Two down, one to go for California Chrome.
Starting from the third post, and holding the best pre-race odds for the second straight Triple Crown race, the 2014 Kentucky Derby winner bested the field to win the 139th Preakness Stakes and move one step closer to history.
It was only two years ago that I’ll Have Another won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, but did not start the Belmont Stakes, the final Triple Crown race, after being scratched due to tendonitis.
California Chrome became the 34th horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. No horse has completed the Triple Crown by also winning the Belmont since 1978, when it was done by Affirmed.
