New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen staked his team to an early lead with a jaw-dropping goal on Saturday. The curling strike off the far post would be all the Revs needed in a 2-0 win over the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.

Following a corner kick in the 22nd minute, Nguyen received a pass in the penalty area and one-touched it past Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampson. The ball ricocheted off the far post and into the net to put New England up, 1-0.

The goal was the culmination of a set play involving a series of quick passes from a corner kick.

“Well, it worked out better than it did in training,” Nguyen said of the set piece after the match. “No, it was something we planned, we had a couple plays and it was one of those ones where it kind of just set up perfectly.”
