Aerin Frankel leads Boston Fleet to fourth straight win
Frankel posted 37 saves in regulation and overtime to help lead Boston to victory on Sunday.
The Boston Fleet are hitting their stride. And it should come as little surprise that Aerin Frankel is leading the way in net.
The Fleet’s star goalie once again led the way for Boston on Sunday, stopping 37 shots — as well as another five during a shootout round — en route to a 3-2 win over the New York Sirens.
The Fleet have now won four games in a row, with Sunday’s victory coming in front of 8,512 fans at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour games. As a result of the win, the Fleet (6-5-2-6, 30 points) now sit third overall in the PWHL standings with 30 points on the year.

Both the Fleet and Sirens traded tallies in the first period, with New York’s Sarah Fillier opening the scoring just 2:09 into the contest with a sharp shot that beat Frankel. Boston’s Loren Galbel secured the equalizer at 6:27, wristing a puck past New York’s Kayle Osborne to knot the game up at 1-1.
New York entered the first intermission with a 2-1 advantage, as Jessie Eldridge pounced on a loose puck and lofted it over Frankel to give the Sirens the advantage once again.
A late power-play bid for Boston at the end of the second period gave the Fleet the opportunity they needed to answer back — with Amanda Pelkey knocking a rebound bid home for her first point of the season at 19:23 in the second.
That score remained knotted at 2-2 through the third period and overtime, with both Frankel and Osborne turning aside several Grade-A looks over that extended stretch of play.

While Frankel turned aside all five attempts that came her way in the shootout, the Fleet did light the lamp on one of their opportunities. Susanna Tapani — who scored the OT winner for Boston in Thursday’s win over Ottawa — scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Fleet to secure the win.
Frankel has continued to stake her claim as one of the best goalies in the PWHL, earning her league-leading 10th win of the season on Sunday to go along with a 1.89 goals-against average.
The Fleet will resume play on Saturday, March 1, when they head up to Montreal to take on the Victoire. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
