Boston Fleet to play two home games in March at BU’s Agganis Arena

"For fans who haven’t had the chance to see a game live, this is the perfect chance to take in the fast-paced, highly skilled, and physical style of play our team brings to the ice.”

The Boston Fleet have called Lowell’s Tsongas Center home for the past two seasons.

But Boston’s PWHL club is making the trek down to Boston University’s Agganis Arena for a pair of games in March. The Fleet will host the Montreal Victoire on March 8 (2 p.m.) before later taking on the Toronto Sceptres on March 26 (7 p.m.).

“Agganis Arena has a rich hockey history,” Fleet Head Coach Courtney Kessel said in a team release. “It’s going to be a great, new experience for our athletes to take the ice in another storied venue. For fans who haven’t had the chance to see a game live, this is the perfect chance to take in the fast-paced, highly skilled, and physical style of play our team brings to the ice.”

While Tsongas Center technically can hold more fans (approximately 6,500 for hockey) than Agganis Arena (6,150), the temporary move to Commonwealth Avenue is, per the Fleet, “part of a league-wide initiative to host games at alternate home venues, making it easier for fans in different areas to attend and experience the PWHL live.”

The Fleet have struggled at times this season when it comes to filling out Tsongas, especially given its long distance from hockey hotbed communities south of Boston and in Rhode Island.

As noted by The Boston Globe, the Fleet drew 3,811 in attendance for their home opener on Dec. 4, drew 4,000 for the second home game in early December, and just about 2,530 for its third home game last month.

“We are thrilled to bring the Boston Fleet to Agganis Arena for these two games,” Boston Fleet Director of Business Operations Laura Marie Cancro said in a team release. “It presents a wonderful opportunity to expose fans in central Boston to the PWHL and engage with our fan base on the South Shore and Rhode Island.”

Tickets will go on sale on Jan. 24 at 10:00 a.m. for two-game packs, while single-event tickets can be purchased on Jan. 31  at 10:00 a.m.
