Former Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine may soon be getting a new gig.

According to WEEI.com, Valentine “is on a short list of candidates” being considered by President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team for the job of United States ambassador to Japan. From WEEI:

The 66-year-old, who currently serves as Sacred Heart University’s athletics director, has engaged in preliminary discussions with President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team regarding the position.

When contacted Thursday night, Valentine refused comment.

According to the story, Valentine, who used to manage the New York Mets, has known Trump since the early 1980s. Valentine managed a Japanese baseball team for seven seasons, becoming the first American born manager to win the Japan Series championship in 2005.
