Olympic athletes are sharing support for each other on Twitter
The Olympics come and go every four years and, frankly, the majority of those participating cycle in and out of our collective consciousness with them.
For the athletes themselves, though, their lives revolve around their sports every day, and their teammates and competitiors are often their closest friends and those they see daily.
That’s been made clear by the messages popping up on social media from athletes directed at each other. Nationality and sport seem to matter less than the understanding that they’ve all worked toward achieving something in similar ways.
American figure skater Adam Rippon tweeted a message after the German pair of Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot won gold Wednesday night with an inspired free skate that lifted them from fourth place to the top of the podium.

Lindsey Vonn tweeted out some congratulations after fellow American Mikaela Shiffrin took home her first gold of these games Wednesday.

It’s not just Olympians supporting Olympians, either. Shiffrin seemed most excited about the shoutout she got after winning her first gold of these games Wednesday from a certain Seahawks quarterback.
