Needham native and Olympic gymnastics champion Aly Raisman hopes to return in four years for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday.

Raisman wants to take a year off (as she did after the 2012 London Games), and then continue training until 2020, she told Ellen.

“That’s the goal,” the 22-year-old said. “I’m really excited. I thought I was in the best shape of my life in 2012; it was even better now, so I’m excited to see what will happen in 2020.”

For anyone who was living under a rock when the Final Five dominated the Rio Olympics a few weeks ago, Raisman won team gold with teammates Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, and Madison Kocian, silver in the all-around, and silver on the floor exercise.

Ellen also chatted with Raisman’s parents, Lynn and Rick, about their now-viral reactions to their daughter’s routines.

“I don’t know why we think if we move, we will help her catch the bar,” Lynn Raisman said.

The family fell victim to one of Ellen’s iconic on-camera “scares,” when a man in athletic attire snuck up behind them. Lynn and Rick both screamed; their daughter barely flinched.
