Bill Belichick wore a Nate Ebner shirt at practice to honor the Patriots’ Olympian

USA! USA!

With the USA men’s rugby sevens team taking the field on Tuesday, the Patriots honored their teammate who is participating in the Rio Olympics.

Bill Belichick and others on the coaching staff wore Nate Ebner USA tees during a joint practice with the New Orleans Saints. The team showcased Belichick’s support of the safety-turned-Olympian on Snapchat:

Ebner and his USA teammates in the rugby sevens competition get underway on Tuesday, facing both Argentina and Brazil. Belichick and the Patriots team as a whole have made no secret about their enthusiasm for Ebner’s Olympic participation.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to follow his passion, participate in the Olympic Games,” Belichick said in late July. “We’re pulling for him to bring back something around his neck.”

This is the first time that rugby sevens has been an Olympic sport, and the first time that rugby (in any form) has been included in the games since the Paris Olympics in 1924. In that competition, the United States won gold.
