Shalane Flanagan set yet another American record Sunday, and this time it was on her own streets.
The Marblehead native won the women’s division of the BAA 10K. She set a new American record for that distance on roads with a time of 30 minutes, 52 seconds, sprinting past the previous record of 31:03—one she set herself during a 2015 race in the Netherlands.
“Doing it here, on my own streets, my town, my home, today is a day for sure I will remember for a really long time,” Flanagan said in a statement. “I’ve had a lot of great highlights in my career, but today will be certainly one of them.”
Flanagan will be representing Team USA at the Rio Olympics this August, competing in the marathon.
