Report: Michael Phelps Suspended 6 Months
A day after Michael Phelps announced that he was checking into rehab, it was reported that the decorated Olympic swimmer has been suspended by USA Swimming for six months.
According to ESPN, the 22-time Olympic medalist will not be able to compete in USA Swimming-sanctioned competition, will be withdrawn from the 2015 FINA World Championships team, and will forfeit his funding from the national governing board for the duration of his six month suspension.
Phelps was arrested in Baltimore for driving under the influence last week, while also being charged with excessive speed and crossing double lane lines. It was Phelps’ second DUI in the past 10 years.
Phelps announced via Twitter on Sunday that he would be stepping away from the pool and attending a rehab program that can provide him help.
