Bill Belichick partnering with daily fantasy football company to create new show
The former Patriots coach continues to grow his media presence ahead of the 2024 season.
Bill Belichick’s post-Patriots media career took another step forward on Wednesday as the coach who once said “stats are for losers” announced his decision to partner with a daily fantasy football company.
Belichick will join Underdog Sports to host and co-produce a new football show titled “Coach, with Bill Belichick.”
The program, as Belichick explained in a preview video provided by Underdog, will provide fans with “behind-the-scenes information, decision making that goes on within the organization, and a breakdown of schematics and personnel within the game.”
“Underdog wants to do that, I want to do that, so it was a great fit,” Belichick explained.
“I partnered with Underdog because Underdog is a sports company run by sports people,” Belichick said in the intro. “They want sports that connect to the fans and that’s what I want to do. I want to find a connection to the fans where I give the fans what they’ve asked me for in terms of content.”
The partnership with a fantasy app is the latest in a series of media moves the former Patriots coach has revealed since his departure as the longtime head coach in New England.
Belichick was already slated for roles with both the Pat McAfee Show (with whom he worked during the 2024 NFL Draft), as well as “Inside the NFL.” He is also set to be a contributor on ESPN’s “ManningCast.”
Following 24 seasons with the Patriots, winning six Super Bowls, Belichick found himself without an NFL head coaching job offer during the offseason. Rather than accept an assistant role with the 49ers — which San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan offered — Belichick opted for another route.
Having already won a Sports Emmy for his role in NFL Network’s “NFL 100” program in 2021, Belichick will now get extended media exposure this fall. For fans who grew accustomed to his famously monotone press conferences while coach of the Patriots, it will be a major shift.
As for the future beyond 2024, the only apparent threat to Belichick’s continued media career would be his potential desire to get back into coaching. Trailing only Don Shula for the record of all-time wins by an NFL head coach, Belichick reportedly remains “fully invested” in his effort to coach again.
