Tom Brady welcomed Eli Manning to Twitter with a playful jab

Just because Tom Brady is in Tampa now, it doesn’t mean he’s going to stop poking fun at his old rivals anytime soon.

Brady is likely to talk plenty of trash when he and teammate Phil Mickelson face Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods in a celebrity golf event Sunday.

First, he provided a playful jab with a sign of respect sprinkled in at Manning’s younger brother, Eli, on social media Saturday afternoon. In one sense, Brady took a shot at the former New York Giants quarterback, but in another he also offered some self-deprecating humor and gave Manning plenty of praise.

“Welcome, @EliManning, In typical fashion, you never showed up until the 4th quarter anyway,” Brady wrote, quote-tweeting Manning’s tweet that announced Manning was joining Twitter. Brady, of course, is 0-2 in Super Bowls against the Giants and 6-1 against everyone else.

There was an element of truth to Brady’s remark. Manning’s total quarterback rating in the fourth quarter of those two Super Bowl wins was twice as high as his QBR in the rest of the quarters combined, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Like he did in those two games — at least for the time being — Manning had the last laugh.
