Jamal Adams does not care about the NFL’s “soft rules.”

After being fined $21, 506 for hitting Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield in the first quarter of the Jets’ 23-3 loss on Monday, Adams posted a video of the hit to social media, expressing his dissatisfaction with how the league handled his physical play.

Adams was given a roughing the passer penalty for charging at Mayfield right as he was throwing to Browns tight end Demetrius Harris. Adams called the NFL a “damn joke” for the rule and said that he is going to play football the way he wants to.

“This league is a damn joke!” he tweeted.  “I just got fined $21k for this hit, I signed up to play football not too hand touch. Bullshi**! I don’t give a damn about these soft rules protecting QBs. Im gonna play MY brand of football every time I step on the field. SMH.”

Adams was not the only one given a penalty during the game. Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was given four, two for roughing the passer. He received one for hitting Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian in the shoulder and falling on top of him. Siemian suffered torn ligaments in his ankle and will be out for the season.

Still, even Garett stressed that the hit was not out of ill intent.

“I’m not going to do anything to try and hurt this team or take out any player outside the rule book,” he said. “I’m just going to keep playing this game the way it’s supposed to be played and that’s violently but passionately.”
