Bill Belichick is prominently involved in an upcoming NFL Films series

"Let me say this: Bill Belichick, as a sports television analyst, is fantastic."

While Bill Belichick isn’t known for offering expansive responses in press conferences, one of the exceptions to this over the years has been historical anecdotes. Some of the Patriots’ coach’s longest answers have been in discussion of past greats.

For that reason, it might be less of a surprise that Belichick was included in a recent NFL Films project that will assemble the league’s “All-Time Team” and determine its “100 Greatest.” The six-part series, which will begin airing on NFL Network this fall, involves host Rich Eisen, NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth, and Belichick.

“Let me say this: Bill Belichick, as a sports television analyst, is fantastic,” Eisen said during his radio show. “He is fantastic. And this is not hype for the show.”

Together, the group will discuss and unveil the NFL’s best players ever as determined by a 26-person blue ribbon panel. The project is a celebration of the league’s 100th season.

In his opening remarks at the start of training camp, Belichick offered his thoughts on the project:

I’d just say it was a great honor for me to be a part of the selection process and be a part of the show. There are obviously thousands of great NFL players and coaches, legends, involved in the game. Many of whom I’ve watched or observed or studied throughout my entire life.

So, it was a tremendous process. Very difficult in terms of the selection but it was, again, a great honor to be a part of it and to go down and be at NFL Films and see that operation was extremely impressive. They do a great job of preserving the history of the game. It’s extremely well run, professional. They have great resources and I think they’ve done a tremendous job in their presentation of the game.

Kenny Rodgers, the Sabol family, the entire NFL Films group. Just being on set with Chris [Colinsworth] and Rich [Eisen] was a great honor, a great thrill, and many of the other legends that were there with us, so that was something I’ve never been a part of and was very insightful and certainly gave me a greater appreciation for this great game and what the National Football League has accomplished and the individuals that have written the stories over the last 100 years. It was a great experience for me.

Eisen explained how he (and former players) were “blown away” with Belichick’s involvement:
