Morning sports update: Is Dez Bryant speaking his Patriots career into existence?
If Dez had his way, he'd be on the next bus to Foxborough.
Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays gave the Red Sox their 100th win of the season, something that hasn’t been done since 1946. The game was also Boston’s 10th win in 14 games, moving them to a season-high 54 games above .500.
Here are some more sports headlines for you this morning.
What in the world is Dez Bryant talking about?
Dez Bryant made his affection for the New England Patriots very clear when he tweeted about them on Sunday. But the Patriots– who went on to sign two other wide receivers– haven’t even mentioned Bryant, though a source told NFL Network’s Mike Giardi that it’s going to be a “probably no” from the team.
But the wide receiver just can’t let go: he was reportedly saying that he’s “probably going to New England” at a Beyoncé and Jay-Z concert, where he was spotted “hanging out” with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

The Patriots have yet to confirm or deny the future that Dez is speaking into existence, but some fans think that picking up the NFL veteran wouldn’t be a bad idea. Still, his dreams of New England are beginning to look more far-fetched as the Pats continue to shuffle their roster without a single mention of the former Cowboy.
Fenway Park was the place to be last night– for a few reasons
One day after clinching the first playoff spot of the majors, the Red Sox notched their 100th win of the season with a 1-0 victory over the Blue Jays. The road to 100 wins this season has been a wild ride for the Sox, but it was also quite a ride for Fenway-goers last night.
Naturally the park was buzzing with excitement at the possibility of the 100th win, which hasn’t happened since 1946. But all of that momentarily came to a screeching halt when a bat flew out of Blue Jay Devon Travis’s hands and landed right in the stands, whacking a man on the forehead.
The man was sitting in the box seats along the third base line when the bat cleared the netting and hit him, landing about 15 rows up. A collective gasp filled the air as security guards scrambled over with a stretcher and towels.

After the initial shock of the incident wore off, the fan took it as any Boston baseball fan would– like a champ. The man stood up to acknowledge cheers from the stands with one fist in the air, while holding a towel to his head with the other.

The bat wasn’t the only piece of stray equipment to fly into the stands last night. A Fenway Park employee was caught on camera snagging a foul ball with a catch good enough to get him on next year’s roster.

The Sox’s 100th win was definitely a night to remember for fans– just maybe not for that guy who got hit with the bat. (Boston.com)
Antonio Brown threatened to physically harm an ESPN reporter
The Steelers’ wide receiver threatened ESPN’s Jesse Washington via Twitter last week. Washington wrote a piece on Brown, criticizing his use of social media and his hunger for the spotlight.
In response to the article, Brown tweeted to Washington: “@jessewashington wait to I see you bro we gone see what your jaw like.”
Brown deleted the tweet, but not before Washington retweeted and screenshot it.
The wide receiver issued a statement through the Steelers on Wednesday.
“I made a mistake in judgment with my tweet last week, and I apologize for that. It is not OK to threaten anyone and I need to be better spiritually and professionally. Though I do not agree with the negative parts of the story about my personal life, I need to have better control over my actions to use social media as a way to engage with my fans, rather than use it improperly.”
Washington responded early Thursday morning with a Tweet.

Patriots shade aside, it looks like this debacle has a good ending in which nobody got hurt– except AB has done this before, something that Washington explains in the very article that Brown was angry about in the first place. (BleacherReport.com)
All 7 rookie head coaches flopped in Week 1
New head coach debuts were rough across the board last week.
First-time head coaches are now calling the shots for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans. And, unfortunately for them, Week 1 of the regular season has already chewed them up and spit them back out.
Of the seven losses, four were by 10-plus points. For example, Matt Patricia’s 48-17 debut with the Lions was atrocious, sparking some unrest in the locker room and a handful of memes on Twitter.
With none of the seven losing teams facing each other in Week 2, there’s a possibility that 0-2 could become reality for all seven head coaches.
But it isn’t all bad. This group of new head coaches has already made the NFL record books– for the worst start in NFL history.
