The Seahawks are reportedly releasing cornerback Richard Sherman Friday in a move that has seemingly been brewing since Wednesday.

After spending all seven seasons of his career in Seattle, Sherman is set to explore the free agent market. So what is he looking for in his next team? NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero asked the 29-year-old exactly that. Sherman shared three qualifications in his response: a great fit, a team with a great quarterback, and somewhere he will be comfortable.

According to Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer, Sherman’s release is intended to provide the Seahawks with greater financial flexibility ahead of free agency. But Sherman also told Breer that Seattle expressed interest in him returning to the team and “will be in contact.”

With the Patriots expected to lose cornerback Malcolm Butler this offseason, New England is rumored to be a potential landing for Sherman. The Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons have also been noted as possible destinations for the four-time All-Pro selection.

Sherman underwent surgery on both his Achilles last season, playing in only nine games. He is still confident, however, in his defensive abilities.

The Super Bowl XLVIII champ shared an image of his statistics since 2011 via Twitter Friday, with the caption: “Cause ppl talking to me like I’m slowin’ down. Opinions over statistics, of course.”

At the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Sherman was having a “fantastic offseason.”

“He is not slowing down,” Carroll said during his press conference. “He’s working like crazy. He’s having a fantastic offseason. His mentality is good. He’s competing like crazy.”
