Morning sports update: Dolphins lineman says Patriots ‘wanted to run away from me’
"At the end of the day, they are a good game planning team."
The Patriots defeated the Dolphins 35-17 to secure a 17th straight winning season. Elsewhere, the Bruins fell to the Oilers, 4-2.
Here’s a look at a few other stories from around the sports world:
Dolphin’s Suh said the Patriots “ran away” from him: Dolphins defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh has his own explanation of the Patriots’ game plan (which resulted in 196 yards on the ground). In his eyes, it had a very specific goal: Run away from Suh.
“I know they wanted to run away from me,” Suh said afterward. “In a lot of situations I was moving around just so they could have an idea of where I was at. At the end of the day, they are a good game planning team. You’ve got to figure out what they want to do against you. Most of the time, they were trying to run the ball away from me.” (WEEI)
Injuries pile up for Patriots despite win: Even though the Patriots produced an expected victory against the visiting Dolphins on Sunday, it came at a cost. Six Patriots were lost to injury.
Included in the injuries was Nate Ebner, Trey Flowers, Kyle Van Noy and LaAdrian Waddle. (Boston Globe)
A generation of Patriots fans only know winning and Super Bowls: With the win against Miami on Sunday, Bill Belichick’s team secured a 17th straight winning season.
For a whole generation of New England football fans, all they have ever known is one of the highest standards of success in NFL history. (Boston Herald)
Jimmy Garoppolo throws a touchdown in his last-second 49ers debut: Though the game was already lost, the 49ers turned to Jimmy Garoppolo for his San Francisco debut on Sunday. In the closing stages of a 24-13 defeat to the Seahawks, Garoppolo came into the game and produced immediate – if inconclusive – results. (Boston.com)
Isaiah Thomas might be nearing a return: Former Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas has yet to play after being traded to the Cavaliers in the offseason. However, according to a vague tweet from Sunday, Thomas might be close to joining the Cavs’ lineup. (NESN)
