Were you bothered at all that so many Patriots players protested during the anthem Sunday? Could it be a signal that the team is divided? – Ron H.
Not at all. Sixteen or so protested, right? Looked like roughly 53 of them were pretty giddy after the win. It seems like everyone on the team is trying to be respectful even if there’s disagreement on whether it is the right approach to take, the right time and place for a protest. It would be nice to say sports are a microcosm of society in this case, but they’re not. Athletes in general have been a heck of lot more nuanced and respectful of each others’ differences than people who disagree in everyday life.
I think Tom Brady said it well this morning on Kirk and Callahan. “I think everyone has a right to do whatever they want to do. If you don’t agree with it, that’s fine, you can voice your disagreement; I think that’s great. It’s part of our democracy, as long as it’s done in a peaceful, respectful way. That’s what this country has been all about.”
