Yes, the NFL really does have a ratings problem

Donald Trump might have ruined the USFL. But his effect on the NFL, whatever it happened to be, was only temporary.

If you’re too young to have owned a Boston Breakers pennant and don’t get the USFL reference, well, I’ll leave it to you to do your own research on the fun-while-it-lasted 1980s spring football league. It went defunct when a certain New Jersey Generals owner (and now president-elect, if the hint eludes you) pushed for a fall schedule, a decision that expedited the demise of a promising league. Perhaps former Generals quarterback Doug Flutie can elaborate if you run into him around Chestnut Hill one of these days.
