Roger Goodell was a ‘sour child,’ according to this Sudbury resident, his former babysitter

New England football fans have long been frustrated with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for his purported selfishness, power-hungriness, and arrogance. His former babysitter, now a Sudbury resident, said he might have always been like that.

In a profile/Q&A published in The MetroWest Daily News Friday, Janet Derby, 69, admitted she babysat for “the U.S. Congressman next door” — New York Republican Charles Goodell — when she lived in Washington, D.C.

Little Roger, one of five sons, was “a sour child, rarely laughing or running around like his brothers,” Derby said.

“If I had only been prescient I would have taught him that it is a sign of weakness to be overly concerned with personal power,” Derby said.

Derby has been a Sudbury resident for five years, she said, though her family has lived in Massachusetts for almost 30 years.
