NFL says Roger Goodell never voiced concerns to Mark Wahlberg about ‘Ballers’
Though the league spokesman adds, "good vibrations is a classic"
After claiming that Roger Goodell called him to discourage the making of an HBO show about life in the NFL, Mark Wahlberg is now being directly refuted by a league spokesperson.
During a Friday appearance on ESPN radio show Mike & Mike, Wahlberg said that the NFL commissioner was one of a few people to call him during the creation of the TV show, Ballers. According to Wahlberg, who is an executive producer on the show, Goodell tried to discourage production, as it portrayed the NFL in a less than positive light.
Asked who had called him in the initial development of Ballers, Wahlberg said it was only “guys like Roger Goodell, saying, ‘you can’t do this,’ and various owners in the league.”
On Sunday, the league responded.
Love Marky Mark (good vibrations is a classic) but this call from @nflcommish never happened @Deadspin https://t.co/ukALTsGAOM

NFL senior vice president of communications Natalie Ravitz tweeted three times to various links, denying that any conversation between Goodell and Wahlberg ever took place on the topic of Ballers.
The show, now in its second season, achieved the highest popularity of any HBO comedy since 2009.
