Sydney Seau, the daughter of the late NFL player Junior Seau, wants people to watch Concussion in honor of her father’s birthday on Tuesday, January 19.

She first wrote a touching birthday message to her father on Twitter on what would have been his 47th birthday.

A few hours later, Sydney took to Twitter again with a call for people to see Concussion, a biographical film starring Will Smith about the forensic pathologist who established a direct link between football and long-term degenerative brain injury, and the NFL’s response to his discovery.

Junior Seau was found to have the brain condition known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), linked to repeated hits to his head, after he killed himself in 2012 at 43, two-and-a-half years after retiring from football. His family sued the NFL, the helmet maker Riddell, and others in January of 2013, alleging they hid information about the link between football and long-term cognitive issues.

The former Patriots linebacker was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2015. Sydney spoke briefly during the induction, but was not allowed to give her entire speech after tension with the NFL over the family’s lawsuit. Junior Seau finished his 20-year career with 1,846 combined tackles, 56.5 sacks, and 18 interceptions.
