Judge ‘anticipates’ Deflategate decision by end of the week
The waiting game continues.
With NFL fans and media members anticipating a ruling in the Deflategate case at any moment on Tuesday afternoon, Judge Richard M. Berman filed a court order indicating only that his decision is coming soon, probably.
“The Court anticipates issuing its Decision and Order by the end of the week,’’ Berman wrote.
After a settlement conference, including Tom Brady and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, on Monday failed to produce an agreement, Berman stated he could announce a decision on whether the Patriots’ quarterback must serve a four-game suspension as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday. At that time, Berman also indicated that he intended to have a decision no later than Friday, Sept. 4.
By holding a decision, Berman could be giving Brady and the NFL even more time to reach a settlement agreement, according to Sports Illustrated legal analyst Michael McCann and NFL Network legal analyst Gabe Feldman. Of course, any wait could also mean that Berman is fine tuning the language of his decision in anticipation of an appeal.
