The Revolution are adding a familiar name for the club’s new head coach.
New England announced the acquisition of midfielder Brooklyn Raines in a cash-for-player trade with Houston Dynamo FC on Tuesday, sending $1.6 million in return. The Revolution could also end up owing an additional $400,000 if particular terms are met.
Raines, 20, has signed a MLS U22 Initiative deal with New England through the 2028-29 season (which also includes a club option for 2029-30).
He will be a known figure for newly-installed New England head coach Marko Mitrović, as the two overlapped at the recent 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Mitrović was then the U.S. youth team’s head coach, while Raines played in all five games of the American run to the quarterfinals (registering a goal and an assist).
He scored the second goal in what turned into a 3-0 U.S. upset of France in the group stage:

“I know Brooklyn very well as a person and as a player. He is someone whose qualities fit our style of play, and his mentality is aligned with the culture that we want to build,” Mitrović said of Raines, per the Revolution’s announcement.
“While he has very high potential, he has already been an impactful player in MLS,” Mitrović added. “I believe he can help our team win now, and we can support his development even more in the future. I’m really looking forward to having him with us.”
Though a young player, Raines already has four years of experience in MLS. He made his league debut at 17 for Houston in 2022 and has notched 45 regular-season appearances.
In the 2025 season, he tallied his highest level of minutes, making 20 starts. His level of play was rewarded when he given a spot on the annually coveted MLS “22 Under 22 Rankings.”
Exactly where he fits into Mitrović’s setup remains to be seen. New England still has veteran central midfielders Matt Polster and Alhassan Yusuf, as well as talented youngster Allan Oyirwoth on the roster, and exactly which formation Mitrović prefers is not yet clear.
The Revolution begin preseason on Jan. 10, and open the 2026 MLS regular season on the road at Nashville SC on Feb. 21.
