The Revolution on Friday made official the hiring of long-time assistant and US junior team coach Marko Mitrović, the 10th head coach in the team’s 30-year history.
The 47-year-old Mitrović, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, guided the US to the quarterfinals in both the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile last month and the Olympic Games in Paris last year.
“It’s an honor to join the Revolution and become the new head coach of this storied club,” Mitrović said in a release. “I will work relentlessly to deliver a team the fans will be proud to support. I’m excited to get started.”

From 2011-22, Mitrović spent time as an assistant in Serbia, with the Chicago Fire in MLS, and with Reading FC in England’s second-tier Championship, as well as leading Serbia’s U-15 team.
“During the interview process, Marko’s tactical acumen and modern coaching philosophies set him apart,” sporting director Curt Onalfo said in a release. “It’s crystal clear that he shares our ambitions to compete for trophies in 2026 and beyond.”
Several candidates were interviewed, the Globe previously reported, including former Sporting Kansas City sporting director/head coach Peter Vermes and ex-Austin FC coach Josh Wolff. Others contacted included Los Angeles Galaxy assistant Dan Calichman and former Portland Timbers coach Gio Savarese, who both played for early Revolution teams.
Mitrović’s “extensive coaching experience at both the club and international levels, including on some of the world’s biggest stages, have prepared him well for this pivotal role,” Onalfo said in the release.
The Revolution went 9-16-9 in 2025 and are seeking a return to playoff contention following a two-year absence.
Under the league’s all-time winningest coach Bruce Arena, they advanced to the 2020 final and 2021 semifinal in the Eastern Conference, but Arena was placed on administrative leave and resigned late in the 2023 season.
The team then hired Caleb Porter, who headed two losing seasons with the Revolution before being fired in September.
Information from a previous Globe report was used in this story.
