The Revolution added another midfielder to the mix as the team continues to reshape its roster heading into 2025.
New England announced the signing of 17-year-old Ugandan central midfielder Allan Oyirwoth to the club’s supplemental roster on Wednesday morning. The contract will take effect on Oyirwoth’s 18th birthday (Jan. 23), and runs through the 2028 MLS season (with a club option for 2029).
Oyirwoth is a young and largely unknown prospect, but already has experience playing for the Ugandan national team (with two caps, including his 2023 debut in which he recorded an assist in a 1-0 World Cup qualifier win over Somalia).
At the local level, Oyirwoth played extensively for Amus College School in Uganda.
“Allan is a talented young midfielder with a tremendous upside and I’m excited to help him reach his potential,” Revolution head coach Caleb Porter said per a team release. “At only 17, Allan is gifted technically and has a frame and range athletically that profiles well for MLS. With time to develop in our training environment, I’m confident he can blossom into an impact midfielder for our first team.”
It’s the latest effort by the club to continue trying to promote younger players, developing them with the possibility of higher-end resell value. This strategy recently paid off with the move by former New England winger Esmir Bajraktarevic to transfer to PSV Eindhoven for a reported $6 million fee.
As for what it means for the Revolution midfield, it will be interesting to see how much of a factor Oyirwoth will be in his initial season as a professional (in a new country). Yet his potential is clearly something the club is trying to help foster, and he seems to be possess a high ceiling as a player.
New England will get the 2025 MLS season underway on Feb. 22 in a road matchup against Nashville SC.
