There was a brief period of time when it appeared that Maxx Crosby was heading to Baltimore, but the trade fell through after the Ravens backed out of it.

According to ESPN, Baltimore had concerns about Crosby’s medical status that led them to nix the trade.

Crosby made his first public comments since the trade fell apart late Wednesday night in a social media post on X.

“Everything Happens For A Reason,” Crosby wrote. “Believe Nothing You Hear & Half Of What You See. Im A Raider. I’m Back. Run That S—.”

Crosby, 28, has spent his entire seven-year career with the Raiders since the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2026 draft. However, with Las Vegas coming off of a 3-14 season and seemingly needing time for a rebuild, there are questions about how Crosby fits into that timeline.

The veteran pass-rusher will turn 29 in August. The Patriots showed that quick turnarounds are possible, but what they accomplished during Mike Vrabel’s first season is exceedingly rare.

The Patriots are the only team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl with a first-year head coach after winning four games or fewer during the previous season, according to NBC Sports Boston.

Las Vegas hired Klint Kubiak to replace Pete Carroll. They have the No. 1 overall pick, and they reportedly have interest in using it on Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

As the Patriots continue to weigh options on how to improve the roster, they’ve been mentioned several times as a potential fit for Crosby. The Patriots were in the bottom-five amongst NFL teams in sacks, pressures, and hurries. They were stout against the run last season, but there was plenty of room to improve their pass-rushing game.

They still have Harold Landry under contract. K’Lavon Chaisson is gone after signing a one-year deal with the Raiders. The Patriots picked up former Ravens pass-rusher Dre’Mont Jones in free-agency.

Pairing Crosby up front with Milton Williams and Christian Barmore would give the Patriots a tremendously talented defensive line. It could also prove to be costly. The Ravens agreed to send a pair of first-round picks to Las Vegas in exchange for Crosby.

The Patriots would have to do their research on Crosby’s medicals before evaluating such a path. They’d also have to decide whether they’re comfortable giving up that level of draft capital as they continue to build up on their young core.

For now, it appears that Crosby is sticking with the Raiders. However, as the botched trade showed, things can change in an instant.
